The New Inn, our community pub. (click on the link to find out more)
In the village, our pub provides a bar, restaurant, B&B rooms and a café which doubles as a skittle alley when a game is on. This was in severe danger of closing (like many village pubs) in 2020 but the villagers rallied round, raised funds and not only bought the pub but completely refurbished it thereby providing a community owned, 21st century coaching house with all the trappings of its 18th century origins.
Halse and District Garden Club
Our very active club holds regular talks, meetings, garden visits, workshops and fun events to support our local communities.
We welcome all to join and share in the delights of the tradition of English gardens washed down with tea, cake and the occasionally something a little more appropriate for summer.
The group began in 2007 and, in that time, has performed comedy, mystery drama; productions from modern playwrights, musicals, and Shakespeare. There have been performances with just one or two actors, but generally it is a cast of between eight and ten.
All actors come from Halse and surrounding villages and the age range is considerable. Everyone involved, whether on the stage or behind the scenes, is there because they love theatre and it shows in the calibre of performances.
The group is always on the look out for those who share their enthusiasm - whether on or off the stage.
St James the Less, Halse Church
The earliest record of a church in Halse was in 1150, when Robert Arundel, a Norman baron, gave Halse Manor and church to the order of St. John of Jerusalem, also known as the Hospitallers.
The church is in the Benefice of Ash Priors, Fitzhead, Halse, Langford Budville, Milverton and Runnington.
Everyone is welcome. Services are a mixture of contemporary with a gentle thread of traditional running through some of them. The official description is “Mid Church” which really means it is neither high nor low.
St James has a Church Council, who work on all aspects of the church, from buildings and churchyard to services and flower rotas.
